Weight Loss Surgery: Benefits and Risks

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Jay Romano You may be considering weight loss surgery if you are overweight or obese. For many people, surgical weight reduction is one of the only viable ways to lose a significant amount of weight and enjoy better health. However, it’s important to realize that this is a very serious undertaking. You should definitely spend time researching the topic and, if possible, talking with people who have already had a weight reduction procedure performed. Understanding the benefits and risks involved with weight loss surgery is absolutely vital to making an informed decision. To help you get started, here is a brief guide… Benefits: * Fast Weight Loss: Obviously this is the biggest benefit of weight loss surgery. Immediately following the surgery most people begin to lose weight quickly. This rapid weight loss usually continues for at least a year and a half, leading to a very significant reduction in body weight. It’s important to note however that many people begin to regain weight within 2 years, especially if they have not made any healthy lifestyle/diet changes! * Improvement of Obesity-Related Health Conditions: For many people, the improvement in their overall health, following weight loss surgery, is just as important as the weight loss itself. And for good reason: people who have suffered from debilitating obesity-related conditions (such as diabetes) for years often experience tremendous improvements within a short period of time. Risk and Side-Effects: * Death: A small percentage of weight loss surgery patients die during the operation or from complications in the days and weeks following the surgery. * Post-surgery complications: Some patients must have follow-up procedures to correct complications, which can include infections and hernias. * Nutritional deficiencies: Some types of weight loss surgeries reduce the body’s ability to absorb important vitamins and minerals. Many patients must take diet supplements on a daily basis or risk developing anemia, osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease, etc. * Gallstones: More than a third of gastric surgery patients develop gallstones due to the rapid weight loss that occurs in the months following a weight reduction procedure. * Side-effects: Some of the most common side-effects experienced by weight loss surgery patients include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, excessive sweating, increased gas, and dizziness. As you can see, weight loss surgery carries some huge benefits along with some very significant risks. If you are severely obese, it is definitely an option for reducing your body weight and improving - or even eliminating - many of your obesity-related health conditions. Just understand the risk and be prepared to make some relatively extensive lifestyle changes after the procedure. If you are not severely obese you should definitely consider diet and exercise options before you think about weight loss surgery. Jay Romano is a writer for LesserTummy.com. A Guide to Pure Hoodia Gordonii

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Dan Ho By the time you finish reading this you should have a good understanding of pure hoodia gordonii and the deceptive phrasing some hoodia sellers use on their product labels. My goal is to equip you with the knowledge to become a more informed consumer and dramatically increase your chances of buying a quality hoodia product rather than one of the many fraudulent ones floating around the Internet, or even found in retail stores. Before we discuss product labeling, let’s talk first about why there are so many hoodia scam products. Here are the biggest reasons you’re hard pressed to find pure hoodia gordonii products: 1. Hoodia gordonii is a rare plant that grows natively only in Southern Africa. The plant takes many years (6 to 7) before reaching maturity….the state at which it can be harvested and used for its anti-obesity effects. This limits the supply. 2. Hoodia is a protected plant and its trade is governed by International law. Something called a Hoodia CITES certificate is needed to export it legally out of South Africa. This selectively granted permit limits the supply even further for us in the Western world. 3. Media attention from some of the biggest print sources and TV shows — including the BBC, CBS, The Today Show, Oprah, and more — have all covered the appetite suppressing effects of pure hoodia gordonii, which has lead to a huge surge in demand. And whenever there is a huge demand for a product with a naturally limited supply, fraudulent products will inevitably flood the market. Let’s face it, fast buck artists have been around from the beginning to time and will probably be around till the end of time too. 4. There are many kinds of hoodia plant, but only the hoodia gordonii species contains the weight loss active ingredient everybody is looking for. 5. Hoodia is not regulated by the FDA and, therefore, no testing is required for the products to hit the shelves or be sold online. We also want to emphasize that your concern for finding a quality hoodia product should not just be focussed on the Internet. In fact, Whole Foods Market, a large high end grocery store chain has pulled some hoodia products off its shelves on concerns about quality. So caution about finding pure hoodia gordonii should extend to retail outlets as well, such as health food stores, supplement sellers like GNC, and others. In short, just because it’s sold in a store doesn’t mean it’s going to be better quality. Now, let’s talk about one of the most deceptive claims made by some hoodia product sellers. As we mentioned above, there are many kinds of hoodia plant. Since only the hoodia gordonii species has the anti-obesity effects, and is expensive and hard to get, some unscrupulous companies will use any hoodia plant they can get their hands on, and claim their product contain “pure hoodia.” And, yes, it may contain pure hoodia….it’s just not pure hoodia gordonii and, therefore, absolutely worthless to you if you are looking to lose weight. Another thing to be aware of is buying products that are made from the “whole hoodia gordonii plant.” This is because approximately 40% of the plant contains no active ingredient….such as the skin, fibrous material, flowers, pulpy leaves, etc. To reduce the cost of making the product (and therefore reducing any potential effectiveness for you as a weight loss aid) they make their products from the whole plant. However, we wouldn’t call this a scam if they are advertising pure hoodia gordonii made from whole plant, but it’s something to be aware of since we wouldn’t want to pay for 40% fillers ourselves. By contrast, some companies will produce hoodia concentrates, which, in our opinion, are better. A concentrate can be produced by taking the hoodia gordonii plant and placing it into an alcohol solution. When the alcohol is removed, it removes a great deal of the fillers with it, leaving a higher amount of the core of the plant, which is where the active ingredient is. This concentrate is then used to make the product. When you see a 10:1 on a hoodia product label, this means 10 grams of the whole hoodia plant was used to make 1 gram of what goes into the product. Another thing to be aware of is that some companies will advertise their products to contains pure hoodia gordonii, but if you look at the label, you will see other ingredients in there….usually stimulants that are used to increase your body’s metabolism. Again, this is not a scam because some people do want to buy a hoodia product that uses caffeine stimulants that may increase the potential weight loss benefits of the product. On the other hand, a lot of people are looking strictly for pure hoodia gordonii without any stimulants because they don’t react well to these stimulants — they can cause you to feel nervous, jittery, give you elevated heart rates, and more. Lastly, because a Hoodia CITES certificate is needed for export of the hoodia gordonii plant, you should try to stick to vendors that display a copy of a Hoodia CITES certificate on their website to increase the chances of you buying a quality pure hoodia gordonii product. This is not foolproof, however, since the more clever and unethical companies could conceivably counterfeit the CITES certificate. With the aforementioned facts and points to keep in mind, you’ll increase your chances of buying a real pure hoodia gordonii product. Aromatherapy: Pure Essential Oils and Healing

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By KG Stiles For thousands of years aromatic oils have been used to help calm stress, anxiety and panic. Aromatherapy can be a valuable ally for healing trauma whether you are a trauma survivor, a relief worker whose affected by your direct involvement with survivors, or simply someone feeling traumatized by seeing and hearing the stories of disaster victims. The use of plants and herbs is the oldest form of healing disease and pain, and the medicinal properties of plants have been recorded in the oldest writings in history, in myth, and folklore. According to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts, priests and physicians were using essential oils thousands of years before Christ to heal the sick. In ancient times essential oils were considered more valuable than gold. In more recent times aromatherapists have offered these valuable agents of healing to disaster victims, as well as to the relief workers who are helping them deal with loss and an uncertain future. I spoke with Sylla Sheppard-Hanger, Director of United Aromatherapy Effort (UAE), about her experiences while working at Ground Zero after the 911 disaster in New York City. Out of a sense of wanting to “do something to help” Sylla joined Doug E. Rasmusson, current Executive Director of Emergency Response Massage International (ERMI) which was created in 2005, to give massage to relief workers at Ground Zero. When at Ground Zero the insight to administer essential oils to the relief workers came to Sylla. Immediately she went on line and began organizing donations for essential oil supplies and UAE was born. The result was that essential oils were used before, during and after massages, as well as given out at fire stations. “Of course you know results are immediate with aromatherapy,” says Sylla, “and we do hear from folks who got relief from headaches, breathed better, etc. later on.” Since 911 UAE has been involved in other relief efforts, including Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Essential oils are highly aromatic and therefore, many of the benefits can be obtained simply by inhaling their aromatic scent. It is well known that aroma reaches and influences the deepest human instincts. When essential oils are inhaled, aromatherapy not only delivers the calming benefits of fragrance, it also delivers the many health benefits unique to essential oils. Essential oils are highly concentrated, a drop or two can produce significant results! What exactly is aromatherapy and how does it work? Aromatherapy means to treat with aroma through inhalation. Essential oils are the subtle, aromatic, and volatile liquids extracted through distillation from a single botanical source (flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark, and roots of herbs, bushes, shrubs and trees), the part of the plant yielding the maximum amount of essential oil. Essential oils act as the blood of the plant, protecting it from bacterial and viral infections, cleansing breaks in its tissue and delivering oxygen and nutrients into the cells. There are many cheap chemical copies of essential oils available, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results get the highest quality oils that you can possibly find. Organic, or ethically wild crafted oils should be used whenever available. Hippocrates said that there is a remedy for everything to be found in Nature, yet only now is science beginning to investigate the many benefits of essential oils and study the incredible healing substances within them. Virtually everything used today in modern drugs can be traced back to a botanical extract. More and more case studies are being recorded, proving the effectiveness of aromatherapy for therapeutic use. Aromatherapy is a natural healing therapy using essential oils to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Continued research studies, as well as empirical evidence show aromatherapy to be highly effective for helping those affected by trauma to heal. Attending A Tropical Luau Party: An Hawaiian Dream

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Gail Leino There is no better time than summer for a Hawaiian luau party. Its certainly a change from the ordinary backyard barbeque with the traditional fare that is typical of the summertime. An invitation to a luau is an experience that you will definitely enjoy. You want to be prepared, though, for an evening of fun. First, be sure when you attend the luau you dress the part with the flowers typical of Hawaii for the ladies, and the gentlemen with the traditional colorful Hawaiian shirt. If the ladies choose, they may want to add a grass skirt for the additional Polynesian flair along with the traditional colorful lei. Of course, your host will be playing the songs of the Islands while you sip drinks from pineapples and tall, chilled glasses of tropical Hawaiian drinks. With coconut, pineapple, mangos, papaya, and other Hawaiian fare, youll feel that you have been transported to the Islands. If your host has a pool, you may even find decorations surrounding that pool that make you close your eyes and believe you have been transported thousands of miles away. A luau is a different kind of party, and if you have never attended one, you will be pleasantly surprised. Tables, food, music, dress, and decoration will all be largely Island-fare. You can sit back, close your eyes, and imagine that you are sitting on the beach in Maui with the clear blue waters brushing softly past you. Absorb the music as it permeates the air and the hula dancers come slowly into view, doing their native island dances. When you open your eyes, you will grasp the meaning of the vision as you still allow your mind to wander to the Islands. Yes, Hawaii, and if you never been there, you can experience its beauty for one night. Are The Barriers Of Dieting Psychological Or Physical?

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Jeff Garcia Part 1. On the last count the word diet produced in excess of 157 million web pages of diet plans, pills, potions and dieting tips from health institutions, diet companies, nutritional professionals and otherwise - from all over the world. And yet we are approaching the peak of an obesity epidemic which is causing untold mental misery and depression, aside from the ever increasing debilitating diseases being linked to those overweight or obese. With such an abundance of information available - how can this be? The trend is unforgiving and is second only to smoking in terms of the cause of self-inflicted premature loss of life, but left to its own devices within the next five years obesity is sure to take the number one slot. Mother Nature is ruthless in her approach to life, in that she only allows the fittest to survive and the trend we see today is her reaction to the effects of a diet that is clearly not suited to the well-being of the human body and mind. We only have to stop, take a step in back and look around us to see that there is one hell of a serious problem. There is no need for statistics, reports or media news to tell us such. It’s clear that we as individuals have to make a change in what we do if we have any intention to reverse the current obesity trend. The ultimate responsibility lies with each and every one of us to act for the benefit of ourselves. We have to accept the fact that the grocery industry is a host of contradiction in that it sells both dietary products along side the very products that cause us to be overweight or obese in the first instance. This is so obvious in our supermarkets today. It has become human nature that profit has a higher weighting than human health, and this is evident in many industries around the world, and is far from unique within dieting circles. We must also bear in mind the diet companies, whilst they portray an air of interest and concern, in reality they are totally dependent on your failure to diet for their very own business survival. If they were good at what they do their businesses would surely fail. So who can we trust aside from ourselves. The evidence is clear -there is no debate. We may have one reprieve but it will be sometime in the future, but not now. Science and technology is getting nearer and nearer to the possibility of a wonder drug with the ever-increasing understanding of the human genotype and genetic engineering. But in reality, who would ever wish or want to be dependent on diet drugs, potentially an ongoing daily basis, simply because of a lack of understanding about the relationship between the food our body has been designed for, and the food we eat. Why is it, we knowingly overeat when we know it is bad for us and that we are doing harm to ourselves? Why is it, that the only time we choose to ignore our food is the time when we are eating it! So, is it a psychological thing, a physical thing or is it both? In order to answer this we must first look at the change in our diet over the last 50 years. Consumption trends of refined carbohydrates such as sugar has risen dramatically, but at the same time the consumption of fats and proteins has remained reasonably stable. Saturated fats has indeed become and still is a problem although thankfully now overall consumption of saturated fats has dropped slightly, but still remains an issue. Many studies particularly those associated with research in how the Atkins diet worked revealed that the effect of refined carbohydrates and fats both have a form of addiction associated with them. Studies have shown that refined sugars have the effect of playing havoc with the fine balance of maintaining the level of glucose in the bloodstream. This in turn has a detrimental effect on our hormonal activity, such as insulin and glucagon which are both responsible for maintaining the level of glucose to its normal level following a surge intake of refined carbohydrates in our diet. These acceptable levels of glucose in the bloodstream are maintained at surprisingly narrow margins. Refined sugars therefore induces excessive hormonal activity in its attempt to restore homeostasis. These unnatural swings in hormonal activity often causes differing mood swings from that of being happy and content to being sad, on edge, and even feelings of anxiety or panic. Prolonged exposure to these hormonal swings can often lead to the whole process becoming less effective and subsequently diabetes can be the end result. Other studies have shown surprisingly that the effect of eating significant quantities of fats actually leads to an unexpected human reaction in terms of nutrition. You would think that eating food rich in fats would have the effect of satisfying feeling of hunger. But amazingly medical research has shown the opposite to be true. Clinical trials have shown that foods rich in fats actually induces people to eat more not less. At the time the results from such experiments were groundbreaking as they completely contradicted the nutritional thinking of the time. It is also interesting to learn that further medical studies have suggested that foods rich in protein have been linked to the response that indicates that you have consumed sufficient food. In other words, it is believed that proteins in some way, triggers the I am full response. And then of course there is the massive change in our energy expenditure. We used to hunt and gather food but now we happily pop to the local supermarket to buy it, or at worse, have it delivered to our front door. Food has changed from being scarce to being in abundance (at least for us), and we have changed from being active to relatively dormant. Move less and eat morewhat should we expect? And many believe that even the act of not exercising can trigger the bodily response to lower the metabolism and build fat layers under the skin for 2 key reasons, both being linked to human survival. In evolutionary terms, it may be that you are unable to hunt and therefore unable to secure food. Reducing the metabolic rate of your body makes total sense to preserve energy. Secondly, if food is available during a spell of non activity, does it not make a whole load of sense to lay down fat layers under the skin to retain bodily heat and secure an energy source during potential lean times. Perfect sense, perfect design and yet we dont understand ourselves and if we do, many choose to ignore the warning signs out body is offering. In essence therefore, it is very clear that part of the problem within the dieting world that we humans face is certainly a physical one that is linked to the interaction of the food types we eat with that of our body. And clearly, over the last 50 odd years our diet has changed out of all recognition and yet our body is doing the same as it has been doing for well over the last 100,000 years. We are in the 21st century, our body is still in the Stone Age. Evolution is a slow slow process but over millions of years, the relationship and reaction of chemicals in our food with the cells of the human body has been cemented and cast, for eons of time. So it is us that need to changebecause Mother Nature will not entertain us for thousands of years to come Run with it, eat what your body has been designed for and successful weight loss will follow for sure Jeff Garcia Part 2 to follow Copyright 2006 Jeff Garcia For more information please visit:http://www.glycemicsuperfoods.comEmail: jeffgarcia@glycemicsuperfoods.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jeff_Garcia http://EzineArticles.com/?Are-The-Barriers-Of-Dieting-Psychological-Or-Physical?&id=165906 phentermine online rx phentermine from union pharmacy phentermine diet pills phentermine pharmacy

Watering The Greenhouse

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Louanne Baelde Watering is one of the most tedious tasks with greenhouse gardening, as these types of indoor gardens require much more water. Watering your greenhouse improperly could cause you to lose your crops. This article will help you to learn ways to make your daily chore much easier while fabulously reaping the benefits. When To Water Its always best to water your plants in the evening, rather than during the hot daytime hours. Plants made up of soil-less composts, need more water because they get dry more quickly. The best way to kill your plants is to water them simply out of routine of doing it. Make sure not to over-water them, but at the same time, assure that they have the amount of moisture that they need. Larger and more mature plants need more water than young new plants. Take care to take the proper measures to water them accordingly. When your older plants start drooping, it may be time to take out the watering can! The plants in your greenhouse will require less water during the dormant season of the coldest weather usually in December and January. Keeping the floor wet in your greenhouse in the very hot summer days, will help to keep moisture in the air for your crops. Hand-Watering At times it may be hard to predict the amount of moisture that is in a plant pot, especially if it has a lot of peat-based compost. Try pressing your fingers gently into the top of the soil mixture inside of the pot. Another way to guess the level of moisture is to use moisture indicators in a few select pots. Larger plants that have been established for some time will benefit most with less forceful watering. This can be accomplished by breaking the force of the water dispersing from the watering can. Sometimes a small piece of cloth will do the trick. Small seeds definitely need to be watered with a very gentle spray. This can be done by pointing the rose of the watering can in an upward motion. Hand-watering is still the most dominant method of greenhouse garden irrigation, even in todays competitive markets. After frequent crop losses however, many growers are realizing that it may be time to change their traditional ways. Overhead Spraying Many of us prefer to have a spray mechanism when watering the greenhouse garden. It is possible to purchase several different designs of tubing that can be suspended overhead from the roof of your greenhouse. Some water spraying systems will spray in two-sided directions; others will spray water to only one side. You will have to select the type of tube design that you need and prefer. Improvising Although it is possible to buy specially designed systems with reservoirs, you can improvise to save money. This way works wonderfully. Find a lengthy piece of plastic gutter and use it as a reservoir by inserting one end of the capillary mat. Capillary mats allow the plants to be watered from the base of the container, where the capillary action of the compost takes place. Just sit your plants on top of the mat. The gutter should be always filled with water. You can do this by hand-watering it or by creating a drip system with the simple use of water bags. Simple drip water system kits can be purchased with minimal cost for those that would prefer this method. These kits include usually about six drip valves that can be synchronized. Some kits even have adjustable water and fertilizer flow. You can also pick up a combination of mist-like sprayers and adjustable dripper kits. It is often best to have automatic watering systems that can do the job when the owner or part-time hobbyist is away at work or away even for short periods of time. Timers or automatic sensors can be applied to help as well with this task. Allow me to share this quotation: The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before. Vita Sackville-West Free to Publish, but may not be edited in any way and resource link must remain. Go On And Say The Word - Who? Who? Hoodia

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Steve Ingram What is it? No, It’s not a new song by Phil Collins but the latest andsupposed greatest of the weight loss wonder drugs. Not adrug really but a plant extract made from the Hoodia”Cactus” well it looks like a cactus, but it’s actually asucculent from the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa. Itseems Bushmen from the area have been using Hoodia forcenturies chewing on this “cactus” to alleviate hunger andthirst on long hunts where prey is tracked over hundreds ofmiles. Why is Hoodia so expensive? It only grows in a very specific environment, mainly SouthAfrica. Because of this the demand for Hoodia products hasfar out paced the production of Hoodia cactus. Which ofcourse has not only driven prices up but also created awhole underground market of fake and/or very low dosageHoodia products. Many products advertise Hoodia extract butread the label and look for a product that is made frompure South African Hoodia Gordonii. Many Hoodia producersdilute their supplements in order to create a lower cost, and therefore make a lower grade product. The bottle mustsay 100% Pure South African Gordonii, accept no substitutes. Can I get cheaper synthetic Hoodia like a syntheticvitamin C or a drug? Hoodia Gordonii is entirely natural; it is not a drug. The drug companies, however, on the lookout for the next”wonder” drug - read “Cash Cow” like Viagra, are alreadyhard at work trying to isolate the appetite-suppressingmolecule in Hoodia to create a patented diet drug to “help”the approximately fifty million Americans that areattempting to slim down. For now quality Hoodia is eitherpure Hoodia, or Hoodia in a formula, from the KalahariDesert areas of South Africa. Hoodia from Texas, Mexico orChina has not been shown in clinical trials to suppressappetite and aid in weight loss. How does Hoodia perform its diet supporting function? We all know that the key to losing weight is to eat lessand exercise more, but that is easier said than done. Itseems Hoodia tricks the brain into thinking you’ve eaten, and makes you feel full. There is a part of your brain, thehypothalamus, where there are nerve cells that senseglucose sugar. When you eat, blood sugar goes up because ofthe food; these cells start firing and cause you to feelfull. What the Hoodia seems to contain is a molecule thatis about 10,000 times as active as glucose. It goes to thesame mid-brain cells and actually makes them fire as if youwere full. But you have not eaten. Nor do you want to. Rats when fed the cactus stopped eating completely. How Quickly Will Hoodia Work? Hoodia may work right away, or may take several weeks. Some people report that Hoodia works for them immediately, suppressing appetite within 20 to 30 minutes after takingthe capsules. Generally, though, people typically need upto two weeks of regularly taking Hoodia before they beginto notice the effects, which include: A reduced interest infood. A delay in the time after eating before hunger setsin again. Feeling full more quickly. A General feeling ofwell being. Hoodia Gordonii is not a stimulant, and has noknown side effects. Hoodia appears to be safe for mostpeople. How to Take Hoodia? Prescription drugs containing Hoodia or its syntheticderivative are years away from being on the market. Butnatural Hoodia supplements are currently available. Youneed to be particularly careful that you take a Hoodia thatcontains the actual plant-some brands out there claim tocontain Hoodia, and have been tested to show they have noHoodia whatsoever. Bottom line. No one can promise you that Hoodia is some sort of miraclediet pill. You can’t just pop a few Hoodia every day, eatall you want, and lose weight. It just doesn’t work likethat. Reality Sets In. The reality is that for many people in order to loseweight, you have to cut some calories, focus on eatingenough good fats (but limit the saturated fats), eat enoughhealthy protein, eat good carbs (high fiber vegetables andsome fruits), avoid the high-glycemic simple carbohydrates(like sugar, flour, and rice), drink sufficient water, andensure that you are doing things-like aerobic and weightbearing exercise. P.S. - I do like the word “Hoodia” though - where do theycome up with this stuff. P.S. - Please feel free to use this article for anypurpose AS LONG AS the links remain intact! Antique Music Boxes - Thing to Know Before you Buy

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Tanya Turner Antique music boxes are great collectable items, but buying them involves a lot of knowledge and preparation. Sometimes you can find genuine treasures that would make any collector proud, and sometimes vintage music boxes are sold for much more than they really worth. Find out what to look for when searching for an antique music box. First thing you need to worry about is if the music box in a working condition or does it need repairs. Of course it is easier to buy a working music box, but you will pay more for it. If the box is not working, don’t get discouraged. Music box is a delicate mechanism that can be easily damaged, but most damages usually can be repaired as well. You can actually find very good deals buying damaged antique music boxes and repairing them. Types of antique music boxes There are two types of old music boxes - disc music boxes and cylinder music boxes. Cylinder boxes appeared on the market in the middle of 19th century, a little bit after music watches. Majority of them were produced in Switzerland, so many people call them Swiss boxes. They were very rare and expensive items. Some cylinder music boxes were made in Czechoslovakia and France. Then disc music boxes came to the market. They were cheaper to manufacture, which significantly affected the price and made them very popular items. First company to release disc music boxes was Symphonion. Other popular brands of antique music boxes are Polyphon and Regina. Quite interesting items are antique music jewelry boxes. Since these can be used to store your jewelry, it would be a great pleasure to open your music box often and to hear a beautiful tune. How much would it cost to repair an antique music box? Actually, quite a lot. The problem is that people who can do a good job repairing old music boxes are difficult to find. There are very few professionals. Another problem can be parts, most of them have to be handmade. Fixing an antique music box would require getting different items often including comb work, cylinder repining, dampers, governors and mainsprings. So be prepared to pay a lot for the repair of your antique box. But on the bright side, after the music box is repaired, its value will dramatically increase. Music Box Planet can help you locate the most beautiful music boxes. Low Carb Foods: Dieting Boon or Rip-off

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Kathryn Martyn, M.NLP Questioning the Wisdom of Low Carb Modified Foods If you are following a low carb diet and you think eating “low carb” versions of things like pancakes and bread is smart, think again. You’ll gain weight as soon as you add real carbs (water weight mostly), any carbs, and you will be paying high prices for unhealthy food in the bargain. Instead eat whole foods such as whole baked potatoes, fresh carrots, salads, vegetable soups, bean dishes. Eat the real thing! Stay away from the modified versions whether low fat, low carb, or low anything. Low carb means added artifical sweeteners and who knows what to stretch the fiber, low fat usually means added sugar, low calorie is usually crappy tasting. Why pay extra for this trickery? If you want to lose weight and keep that weight off a few things must happen. Your diet must include healthier foods in greater quantity than unhealthy foods. I’m not talking “good” or “bad” foods. Any food is fine, in moderation. The trick is moderation. I love cake but I don’t eat it every day. I love all kinds of sweets but I don’t over indulge every day. If I did I’d gain weight, and it really is that simple. I choose to stay in shape by eating the goodies when I want, but my desire is infrequent because I want even more to maintain my size. What does eating pancakes do for me? It makes me want syrup, and maybe something sweet later that day. It sets me up for craving sugary sweet foods. That may not be what I really want, especially if I’m trying to lose a few pounds. What about bread? Wouldn’t I be better off eating the low carb bread? No. Choose a healthy, whole grain bread. The low carb brands are not whole grain, they are white flour, with added corn starch and artificial sweeteners. They reduce the size of the loaf, and slice the pieces teeny tiny then claim, “Only 4 Net Carbs per Slice” or something equally ridiculous. Check the loaf. Is a sandwich made with teensy sized pieces of bread going to satisfy you or is it going to make you want another sandwich? Eat the real thing, and you’ll feel satisfied from having eaten an adult sized sandwich, and you won’t feel deprived or crave for more. ~~ Kathryn Martyn, Master NLP Practitioner, EFT counselor, Weight Loss Coach and owner of http://www.OneMoreBite-WeightLoss.com is the author of “Changing Beliefs, Your First Step to Permanent Weight Loss.” Learn to use Kathryn’s One More Bite Approach with The Daily Bites: Mini lessons in using EFT for weight loss http://www.OneMoreBite-WeightLoss.com/getnews.html Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kathryn_Martyn,_M.NLP http://EzineArticles.com/?Low-Carb-Foods:-Dieting-Boon-or-Rip-off&id=86522 buy xanax online mo prescription prescription drug comparison chart xanax xanax prescription without cleveland xanax phentermine online pharmacy carisoprodol

Minnesota Chiropractic Schools

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

By Michael Bustamante If you are interested in learning how to provide good, holistic healthcare, Minnesota chiropractic schools are prepared to fulfill your desires. Consumers today want natural methods of achieving good health and wellness, and there are several chiropractic schools in Minnesota offering professional chiropractic training to address this growing need. The practice of chiropractic medicine is based on the body’s ability to restore and maintain health naturally, and Minnesota chiropractic schools provide the knowledge and skills you will need to help others achieve and maintain optimum health by natural means. Chiropractic students are taught to assess and diagnose patients with muscular, spinal, and nervous systems disorders, and to treat them through a holistic approach. Minnesota chiropractic schools teach students to view each patient as an individual and to recommend restoration of health to the entire person–mind, body and spirit. Aspiring chiropractors are taught to obtain information from each client, assess information, and recommend solutions of a natural means to induce the recuperative process. Students learn when to advise such remedies as exercise, changes in diet, and sleep; they will also learn how to make adjustments to spine and joints to assist in the restoration of health. Perhaps most importantly, they learn how and when it is appropriate to make referrals to other healthcare professionals. Curriculums in all chiropractic schools are intensive and inclusive. Students may choose to specialize in neurology, nutrition, sports injuries, orthopedics, pediatrics, diagnostic imaging or internal disorders. Some Minnesota chiropractic schools offer a few cursory business classes to introduce concepts of operating a chiropractic business, but additional business courses taken elsewhere will likely be necessary for complete confidence in this area. Beginning chiropractors can expect earnings to be modest early on, but increases will quickly follow as their practices grow. Annual earnings for chiropractors in the U.S. exceed $70,000, with minimums around $45,000 and maximum about $120,000. You can learn more about Minnesota Chiropractic Schools on our website.
